1997/02/12: There Are Many Grammatical Errors   Its amazing how many people get this wrong. They say "there's many...", which is a contracted form of "there is many". You know that is is singular and many is plural, right? They just don't go together.
You should be saying "there are many...", which shortens to "there're many...". It is really not that hard to say. Try it. There're many clouds. There're a lot of clouds. There is a lot of of rain. There are a lot of raindrops.
I have heard TV anchormen get this wrong. Even someone from the BBC, which really surprised me.
I have heard it in many songs. "Artistic expression", I guess.
I have also seen it in TV shows. I accept the argument that regional accents and idioms, such as those of a Texan or a New Yorker, need to be spoken by a character in order to provide realism, but "normal folk" do not need to get it wrong. The actor should have caught it, even if the scriptwriter didn't.
Come on, people. Get yourself out of the gutter. Improve yourself. And while you're at it, stop saying "youse guys". Don't get me started!
