CMI III Boot up problems.CJ 2004-12-26 08:35:25
Help!
Our Series 3 won't boot up. We are running rev 9.34 and the system was running fine until today. (Merry Xmas!). The problem we seem to have is as follows:.
On switch on (power up), we get the usual version numbers on screen, along with info re; Waveform Supervisor Hardware which recognises all the usual hardware, Graphics card info, channels cards (all 8 OK), etc. The cursor in the bottom left hand corner rotates as usual and then states "Booted up from Waveform Supervisor, OS 9" etc. etc., but that is as far as it gets!
It should then clear the screen and display "Multi mode IO pack", etc. across the top before bringing up the Fairlight logo and then the directory page. This doesn't happen.
We have removed all cards and refitted them, checked all connections. Tried to boot up the machine without Q777 installed, no luck. Refitted Q777. (could not press epron on card cos there isnt one!) and rebooted. NO LUCK AGAIN.
This is driving us mad. Do we need to reinstall Rev 9.34? If so, how do we do this from Start up? Does anyone have (9.34 on 8 inch floppies in the UK or Europe?
We need this sorted by mid Jan, cos we have to lend it out for studio use!
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Isn't there a known bug in 9.34 where you sometimes have to
press space bar or ESC key at the point where the screen hangs
during the boot up sequence ? I've seen this sometimes on my 9.34
system, and I recall Peter Wielk saying you sometimes needed to
do this.

thanks
David

This happens to me 20% of the time. Peter Wielk also told me if pressing space doesn't work, try pressing CTRL Q simultaneoulsy.

Good luck!

Regards,
Peter
