| Series III G-Pen Calibration. | CJ | 2004-12-08 16:13:59 |
| Is it possible to calibrate the G-Pen to the tablet on the Series III CMI? We have run the Pen/Keyboard Diagnostics in OS9. The co-ordinates show for the whole surface of the tablet, but when we use the pen in CMI, the crosshairs will not travel any further across the screen than icon 11 along the bottom and about half way across the command line at the top. We can move the cursor all the way to the right providing we do so along the horizontal centre line but not to the top or bottom right corners. The graphics pad has been removed and cleaned and the diagnostics re-run, same result (co-ordinates show up for the whole pad) but no change in use. Obviously, hardware must be OK, so can someone help with software? |

| To calibrate the pad to the electronics is easy to do, but a little hard to explain. I don't think there is any way to calibrate the application to the pen. That may not be your problem, as the diagnostics should exactly reflect the performance in the application. Check this again, and make sure that when the pen is in the problem area that both the x and y are still incrementing as you would expect. The fact that it works in the middle and not at the top or bottom indicates to me that the pad is buggered, but the diagnostics should show a X number that matches the middle, and then the top and bottom corner, say within one number. Be aware that the diagnostics will update the numbers as you move around the pad, but again, the X number should remain about the same as you run the pen up and down the right side. If you want to play with the adjustments, here is sort of how it's done. There are four pot's (adjustable potentiometers) on the board under the graphic's tablet - or at least they are under the tablet on the early one, and beside it on the later one. Bascially, they are grouped in two lot's of two - with one group adjusting the vertical interpretation of the nib on the tablet, and the second group adjusting the horizontal interpretation of the nib. One pot adjusts the "width" - which means the size of the window that the electronics interprets as the nib moves accross the surface. It is possible to use this adjustment to move the pen active area in from the edges of the plastic surround so as to get around a worn out area on the edge. The second pot of the group adjusts the postion of the window - or active area. So it is required to adjust both these pots to match the active area of the pad up with what is displayed on the screen. It takes some time to get it right. I guess what I am saying is that in your case it might be possible to adjust the active area to the left and more of the middle so that at least you can get to all the icon's. Use a plastic adjuster as the metal ones, like a greenie, will affect the result. If anyone can quote this adjustment out of a manual, it might be a little clearer. : Is it possible to calibrate the G-Pen to the tablet on the Series III CMI? | :Brilliant! Thanks Andrew. We now have full access to the screen corners. It has meant reducing the pad's useful area to about 75% as well as learning to move the pen more slowly! If the tablet is in fact "buggered", is it possible to have it fixed or replaced, and if so where from? Does anyone in the UK have a spare? We would pay any SENSIBLE price for a replacement! : That may not be your problem, as the diagnostics should exactly reflect the performance in the application. | Try Graham Murray at Tekcare, in the UK, he may have a tablet. Peter at Horizontal Productions may have them as well. You will have to specify if you need the single connector or the three connector tablet - and that should be all that needs replacing. As to sensible price - I dunno what the going rate is. How much do you need a new one? Regards, Andrew. : :Brilliant! Thanks Andrew. We now have full access to the screen corners.
