CMI IIX "Cenezoic template Wav"an exercise in Aural Symbiotics.Simon A Peters 2004-12-08 15:55:05

ORIGIONAL CMI IIX Demo "Locust"" 8 part version by Mars Lasar"Simon A Peters 2004-12-09 16:41:10
: So here is the piece which had me captivated for years.

20 yrs b4 subwoofers, all but the Movie Earthquake horns, this piece utilised musical content in context with the composition at 20/48hz.
I hope that after 20 yrs and 40 generations + mp3 conversion its still there?
Think for a moment ..How far have we come.
this composition it constructed entirely form 2 seconds of wave form DATA.. thats right 2 seconds.
enjoy. and share..
open the directory take what you want more to come.

Moreabout LOCUST +the Cenezoic temlate wav, is "TOoBootCHA_Beast !!"Simon A Peters 2004-12-10 14:01:11

Regarding Locust,
should you have a reasonable sound system, check out the infamous CMI bottom end, such control.
The mixing console was static, meaning there was no manual or automated manipulation, the composition used Page R.
The method by which panoramic movement was achieved was called "The jumping beans technique"
There are only Eight monophonic voices used in the sound palate, and the approach to sound generation (color) was additive.
Upon comprehention of these facts, it seemed a futile excersise gerenrating a sample library authored on Page 4 as asked of me by Kim Ryrie.Instead i was more interested in acheiving another goal, even if it meant costing me my place at Fairlight CMI some 25 yrs ago.

"HowdeeDooDee wav"the Worlds first CMI II/X 12 bar ..and blue print on IIX emulaSimon A Peters 2004-12-13 15:33:41
Hi this is a cute one, 12 bar authored in Page R.
really whats on dispay here is the CMI's timing or clock resoloution.
it was never about PPQ but more accuracy in SPEED...
hear it feel it.
"The fastest/shortest route between two points is a Straight line."
Here the CMI is pretty straight:-).
The two points in context of audio /music is the beginning and the end of a composition.
It may be semantics here but,
It was never about getting there on time.. but how you got there and how you travelled.(enjoy the trip)
One cant capture the past seconds/bars..one CAN experience the present MICRO second/bar(with human brain accuracy) in real time...(perception) and one can ony anticipate the comming seconds.
So it is the with listening to a musical composition.. the experience and perception is what it was all about..
now regarding clock resoloution of the cmi, it's unique as a combination of Hardware/software interpreted the oscilations of its timing crystal...(cant really emulate it) short of......mmm????
Atari 1024ste(still more accurate in timing than current PC's/steinberg midex for midi the most accurate translator??/Korg wavestation (legacy) loaded with the CMI IIx library..and let a stand alone as an application /with a wavesequencer interface/mod emulating Page R.
ie no logic or cubase sequencer. all sequencing done in wavesequencer.. which already is set up for 48ppq. the IIX max.
Mod the oscilator clock on the atari with a frequency oscilator to affect speed. Youd be getting there...
CYA.
S.
BTW the file is about 1.2 meg...ok

THE BEAST (666)....have a read, downoad it..CMI IIX page R composition.Simon A Peters 2004-12-17 14:46:34
As you may well know that i suffer from Bi Polar(MDP), my time at fairlight was truly Memorable/unmemorable?,,
so the entire time spent there was one huge manic episode//
madness took control.
The heaven hell thing +/- Beast 666...good vs evil was my reality there,im sure some of the guys firgured i was odd but no one ever picked up that i was PERMANANTLY TRIPPING.. selavie.Lucky me..
My Mission.. to fly that CMI, a pilot,in a war to save the world...
Time frame (ronanld regan starwars ) many of the R&D department were infact from NASA...true.
imagine if you can....
I was a Primitave Neanderthal man, meeting NASA personell,Mars Lasar, and in daily exclusive 24/7 keyed access to then some of the best gear on the planet, and in the cockpit of where many would have gladly given their Left testicle to be.I HAD NEVER SEEN A COMPUTER BEFORE..
This green phosphor screen with of all things a (cursor) taking comand.?? this CMI OS was pre win 3.1 get the picture?Windows and macs simply didnt exist and CD's hadnt arrived...Love over gold came to mind(dire straits) i think the first digitally recorded mastered comercial product that stuck out like dogs balls on my clock radio, first time it was broadcast was the first time my 3" radio speaker emitted a noise that resembled Good sound music..
life was going to change for ever..
a bit like 9/11.(proportionally)
SO the digital computer world was embryonic I was not alone in having Fear or Paranioa as to the effect that this SAMPLING /Time machine would have on MUSIC and the world...Looking back.... mad or not... the on going ramifications of What they pioneered there warranted some questions at the least..
Its my opinion that Had they not done the then IMPOSSIBLE... much of the technology we have today would never have come to pass..
so who were the players..mmmm>>
A green screened cursor/The DUDE called MARS from mars/two blokes/(one who batted for another team?and a hippie type guy who looked like Jesus Christ.... & NASA. and Bill Gates !!!!
He provided a thing called the BLUE BOX which i used..
the quest was on..
Mission to go undercover and expose to the world this master conspiracy...My madness hatched a beauty...(the conspiracy ill keep to myself for now....)
so
re..The Beast (666).. here is a page R stand alone composition..
a little noisy and form a dead cassette...long discarded...
The guts of this excersise was to compose something that sounded full and masculine ballsy EVIL ?? whatever, i was still figuring out What makes a cursor think >>>0<<< ...
Your listening to 8 monophinic Voices..to compare FATTNESS of its keyboard piers at the time grab a DX7 and hit an 8 note chord...see if you can match the BEAST for balls????
Maybe the NED could but it wasnt online at the time..
its amazing what you can/could do with a just few seconds of waveform data.Today were spoilt rotten..
its all a diferrent kind of challenge.
enjoy.
Simon.

KOLAB..CMI IIX montage- collage one of the first.......Simon A Peters 2004-12-19 15:50:43
Hi,
Well this is the last of the installments.
You might be curious as to my references to "Planet Earth""implying that there be another ???..
well..
I was reared as a Mormon, still am, not practicing as religion and madness arent a good mix.
continuing on from the spiel in the previous Beast listing,KOLAB is a laboratory in space..in orbit from another planet KOLOB...according to my belief system.
Kolob, the place from whence i came, to where i shall go, Home, the place/PLANET where GOD resides.

So here is an early CMI IIx montage.. polyphonic samples played onto 8 track tape.
Many of the samples you will recognise as they became commonplace, however theres an explosion/Liftoff sound Authored on request of me, by TOM STEWART at fairlight, this is truly amazing its impact and design geinious.
Tom was a NERDY/cool guy, who truly was the living embodyment of "BRAINS" AKA THUNDERBIRDS> no bull.

The Kolab, theme was drawn from an earlier project, Welcome Aboard... a musical album, synth based story telling, a visitor from another planet visits earth and checks it out.

This was 1980 ish and was the origional reason that Kim Rryrie invited me there in the first place. The Welcome Aboard project is available on Request... some interesting stuff there.
With this project in mind/ a manic episode / MARS/CMI IIX and the players previously mentioned, my mind was a fertile tinderbox ready to go off.
and it did
a contextual acid trip of a life time....

..... still Tripping.
The psyche drugs dont work. They just keep the hospitals empty

Manic depressives kill themselfs often..
in Australia a little known fact...
in year 2004 more mainics/schizos commited suicide than the total national Road death Toll..
no one cares..
Selavie.
