| Does the CMI Explorer convert the native Fairlight format of the attached disks somehow into .WAV or .AIFF or is it just a back-up tool? I, too, would be very excited to get access to the Fairlight Series III library to use with my Emulator 3. Despite not having a Fairlight myself, I would be interested to do some sample conversion into a format non-Fairlight owners an read into their samplers. If there is such a software available and if someone with access to the CMI library wants to provide a CD-ROM or HD, let me know... Also, if someone has already a part of the F3 library in Emu E3 format, please get in touch with me.
Thomas.
: : the "factory" library for the Series III was always being updated : each year during the mid to late '80's. There were tape library : carts released by Fairlight each year with new samples. Many : of the samples came from the users, which made their way back into : Fairlight's library update tapes. So it was never really obvious : to me what comprises the "entire" set for the III from '86 : to 1992-era. That is, accounting for how many library update tapes : were released over the years from Fairlight. Was it every year, : or only for as long as they had the subscription service going ? : I have a large # of III tapes, including many from Fairlight from : the late 80's (87, 88 time frame). Sadly, most of the tapes : are shot due to natural deterioration of the tapes being in storage. : somebody needs to be a good samaritan and archive their healthy : factory tapes onto DVD-R and share or sell the disc(s) to the user : community. Then use CMI Explorer to copy them onto our HD's. If my : tapes were in good condition, I'd do it for free. : cheers : David : : : Does anybody know if there is a collection of .wav files on CD that represents the entire set of original factory samples that shipped with the CMI III? I have the collection of CMI IIx samples on CD from Digital Domain. I guess I'm assuming the CMI III had different stuff since it was newer. If not let me know. : : Also, I read an interview that Jan Hammer gave one time where he talked about a factory acoustic guitar sample that he had received for the CMI III from Fairlight and that he started using on the third season of Miami Vice. Does anybody have any information on such a sample? : : Thanks...Matthew |
