| Inexpensive DIY revision 9 upgrades for CMI III.... | Peter Wielk | 2004-05-28 04:12:42 |
If you have an older style revision 5 or 6 Fairlight CMI III, you may be interested in the following "Do it yourself" upgrade to revision 9.34, the last software and hardware revisions ever released by Fairlight. Upgraded rev 9 machines can format and access virtually any hard drive up to 4 Gbyes, are lightning fast, AND SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME AS BEFORE. There are a huge number of other improvements and new features too, read about them on my website at www.horizontal.co.uk I know that not many folk on these pages want to spend over US$3K getting their old machines upgraded, but I may be able to offer a solution: I could sell an upgrade kit of waveform supervisor card, formatted 4 Gbyte hard disc full of excellent sound libraries (including the complete Fairlight library) and the revision 9 software, new manuals, new ROM set, full detailed instructions and all the loose components for about US$ 1,500. However, you would have to get a very good technician to do this, and you still might have timing problems with old 2 Mbyte RAM cards. There are no problems with 4, 8 or 32 Mbyte RAM cards.. I could even include a colour graphics card (so you can use a sexy flat LCD screen) for an extra US$ 750.. Of course you can still send your CMI mainframe to me here in Sydney for me to upgrade for US$ 2,950! Hope this is helpful,
regards, Peter Wielk
